Cased-Hole Logging Services
Well Integrity
TecWel is second to none when working with Well Integrity issues. The engineers involved in pre-engineering and operations are all top international experts and professionals in their field. Performing a cased-hole logging operation in the hope of identifying one or more failed well barrier is the most complicated cased-hole logging operation in the industry, and TecWel is the world’s leading supplier of this service. The company’s achievements in the field are proof of that.
Sustained Casing Pressure (SCP) is a condition continuously observed by every operator in the Oil & Gas Industry. The problem can occur in both brand new wells and wells that have been in operation for some time. Even during the drilling and completion phase Well Integrity issues are commonly encountered. All operators have a philosophy for how to deal with Sustained Casing Pressure. These philosophies can be based on governmental regulations and/or company policies, and both of these institutions very often use API as their standard. The API RP 14B (“Recommended practice for design, installation, repair and operation of subsurface safety valves”) and API RP 90 (“Annular casing pressure management for offshore wells”) are the most commonly referred to in the industry.
The Well Leak Detector (WLD) and Well Annular Flow (WAF) tools from TecWel are designed to identify the exact location of a leak points (WLD) or to identify the origin of and map the flow pattern of fluids migrating in an annulus (WAF). Employing one or both of these services in one tool string during a cased-hole logging operation, will yield data that enable the customer to implement cost-effective counter measures. Rapid response after observation of SCP has been proven to be a risk-reducing and cost- effective way of handling SCP.
Cost-effective countermeasures to SCP require high quality data. The prime objective is to sample surface data of pressure versus time; when the analysis of the pressure data has been performed, the next step is to perform a cased-hole logging operation. TecWel’s experience shows that preconceived opinions about the cause of the SCP may be erroneous. Consequently, logging the well from the top of the reservoir – or even deeper (WAF) or from the production packer (WLD) to surface, is the most cost effective way of securing well integrity. Diagnostic activities from the surface can sometimes reveal whether the leak is above or below the Downhole Safety Valve (DHSV); however, such activities can NOT reveal whether there are one or more leaks in the system. Only by employing a cased-hole logging operation can such diagnostics be complete. With pressure versus time data from surface gauges and a WLD and/or WAF log from TecWel, lost production and remediation costs will be minimized!
TecWel makes available information to its costumers about different repair techniques for all SCP situations.
