TecWel is proud to announce that the WPE, Well Performance Eye inspection tool is now ready to be released. The WPE is successfully tested in a land based well at Seawells facilities in Stavanger. The WPE tool is a high frequency acoustic inspection tool which generates real time images and video from the well bore.
A phased array transducer is transmitting and receiving ultrasound pulses and the information is converted to readable image information.
The main objective of the WPE is to deliver accurate image information which enable companies to make decisions based upon high quality data.
The WPE tool is now being prepared for a full-scale test.

June, 2008 - TecWel establishes Aberdeen base for UKCS operations
Downhole specialist, Chris Nussbaum heads up new UK company with world-first leak detection technology
Norwegian cased-hole logging company, TecWel AS, has established a new base in Aberdeen to service clients in the UK sector of the North Sea oil and gas industry. TecWel specialises in well integrity and production optimisation surveys, and currently has bases in Norway, the UAE, the USA and Malaysia; its expertise is based around advanced ultrasound technologies. Many of its existing clients operate in the UK North Sea sector.
Well-known and respected well intervention professional, Chris Nussbaum takes on the new role of CEO of TecWel (UK) Limited, which is currently operating from premises on the Badentoy estate outside Portlethen. He will be growing the Aberdeen team during 2008 and is looking to take on a number of offshore engineers and other staff in the Aberdeen area.
A physics graduate from the University of York, Chris Nussbaum comes to TecWel after 15 years with READ Well Services, another successful Norwegian niche technology service provider. With broad experience in well operations and business development, Chris is well connected in the downhole technology sector worldwide.
President of TecWel AS, Gunnar Andersen, welcomed Chris Nussbaum to the company and said, ‘Chris has great breadth of experience in subsurface well engineering and has expert knowledge of the current marketplace for the products and services of TecWel. He is a natural match for TecWel’s strong cased hole logging service offering. His career has included technical, commercial and marketing aspects of working in the downhole sector of the oil and gas industry, and this makes him an ideal candidate to launch this new venture for TecWel in the UK.
’We are very excited about our new UK business and look forward to working with Chris as he supports our Norwegian and UK customers and builds the UK company.’
Chris Nussbaum sees great potential for TecWel as it develops its UK business. ‘I have watched TecWel grow for several years and develop an impressive portfolio of cased hole logging services,’ he said, ‘I am privileged to be given this exciting challenge of building the new UK operation. TecWel is an award-winning company with its unique Well Leak Detector (WLD) technology - an ultrasonic downhole leak detection service, and the only one in the world of its kind; one of its current customers, BP, uses it extensively in Alaska. At the end of 2007, BP was reporting savings to date of more than $27m, thanks to the TecWel ultrasound leak detector.
‘The WLD is widely acclaimed and has been deployed in more than 200 well locations around the world – saving millions of dollars in rig workover time for its operators. This kind of technological success is the way forward for TecWel, and I am delighted to be part of this new international drive.’
TecWel’s customers also include Total, ConocoPhillips, StatoilHydro, Maersk and Talisman Energy, and are located in oil provinces around the world, including the North Slope and Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, Azerbaijan (Shah Deniz), and in the Gulf of Mexico. TecWel’s well integrity products are based on proprietary ultrasound technology and as well as the ICoTA-award-winning WLD leak detector, they include a sand detector, an annular flow monitor, and a downhole flow profile tool.
‘TecWel has recognised that ultrasound has great potential in well integrity monitoring,’ says Chris Nussbaum, ‘having the capability to precisely locate problems and give accurate diagnosis of critical integrity problems deep in a well.
‘Ultrasound is already invaluable in the field of medicine, and TecWel is now applying this specialist science to the oil and gas industry, where minute leaks of gas or liquid can have costly and catastrophic consequences if not accurately diagnosed. This is a technology with a real future in the oil and gas industry.’
May 2008 - Seawell acquires TecWel
Seawell Limited announces today the purchase of TecWel AS.
The purchase price is NOK168 million. A possible increase in the purchase price is agreed based on future performance and technology achievements.

Commenting on the acquisition, Seawell's Executive Chairman, Jørgen Peter Rasmussen said, "This acquisition falls in line with several other acquisitions made by the company recently in order to create a Seawell technology group. It further increases our ability to serve our clients, adding additional unique well services tools to our line of specialized products and services. The acquisition is in line with our strategy to strengthening our offering to the drilling and well services segment of the oil and gas industry."

BP Alaska began to think finding ultra- small leaks below the resolution of conventional logging tools. The Well Leak Detector tool designed by TecWel has become part of Alaska’s standard tool kit and it is estimated that 77 leaks have been found in 51 wells; many have been remediated without a rig.
Just two years after the WLD was released to the market, TecWel was nominated to BP Helios Award under the category of innovation. Considering that the company it’s relatively new, this recognition is a remarkable success!
